Jones and Peebles

Excerpts

Mrs. Jones Teaching Philosophy

I knew from the age of ten that I wanted to become a teacher. By the time I was thirteen I knew the area I wanted to focus on. Mathematics has always been my best subject. I was influenced by the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other school teachers in my past. I learned from them that I could do whatever I set my mind too. Through them I learned that knowledge is powerful.

My greatest contribution in education has been for me to be able to teach all children. And for me to be able to work collaborate  with others professionals in our educational network such principles, therapists, other teachers, and most importantly our parents. Teaching is a team effort. Another contribution that makes me exceptionally proud is to be able to be a mentor to new teachers. I mentor new teachers in their specific subject area. To be able to help people is very rewarding to me.

Mrs. Jones contributes outside her classroom. She is the 8th grade curriculum leader, her team leader, and a teacher mentor. IMS is blessed by her sincere willingness to share her professional knowledge and experience.

Students benefit from Mrs. Jones' tutoring and mentoring. She is the sponsor of the National Junior Honor Society.

Mrs. Jones further serves the community at large as pastor of the True Mt. Zion Holiness Church in Hampton, VA.

Congratulations Mrs. Jones

IMS 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year
